A partnership to enhance agricultural innovation and development

Researchers in Tanzania concluded that Mucuna, Cowpea, Pigeon Pea and Canavalia legumes have high potential as an organic nitrogen source for soil fertility restoration and, hence, cassava yield improvement.

The MKTPlace project (ID 1183) results show that farmers who use those legumes as a source of nitrogen in rotation with cassava can get higher cassava yield of about 98% than those farmers who do not use nitrogen fertilizers.

The use of these leguminous plants by farmers could reduce the cost of production and save the environment from the long-term negative effects associated with chemical fertilizer use.
