Agricultural Innovation MKTPlace

1) What is the “MKTPlace”?

A South-South-North partnership to foster agricultural research and innovation for development by supporting policy dialogue and collaborative projects.

2) What areas are contemplated for funding?

Proposals will be accepted within the 4 thematic areas below. Innovation should be a major component of the proposals. For details and examples of potential topics, please download the guidelines for proposals available on the website.
 
1. Productivity Enhancing Technologies
2. Natural Resource Management Improvement
3. Policy, Institutional and Market Strengthening and Knowledge Management
4. Smallholder and Poverty-Alleviation Targeted Technologies
 

3) Who can apply?

Individuals from African and LAC - based public or private, governmental or non-governmental research and development organizations together with one or more of Embrapa´s (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) centers. Projects with only African, LAC or Brazilian organizations are not eligible.

4) How do I submit a proposal?

Proposals are submitted through the web. It is a 2-step process, where pre-proposals and proposals are submitted.

5) How does the selection process work?

The “MKTPlace” Steering Committee (SC) will be in charge of the selection process. The selection process will be as follows:

a) Selection of a subset of submitted pre-proposals based on the established eligibility and assessment criteria;
b) Authors of selected pre-proposals are invited to present full proposals;
c) Selection of the best subset of submitted full proposals for project funding.

6) How much funding is available?

Funding availability is call-specific.

7) Can I submit a proposal if I already have a project(s) funded by the MKTPlace?

Yes, you can submit proposals if you already have a project (s) funded by the MKTPlace.


8) I am based in Africa, how can I find an Embrapa partner?

You can find and contact an Embrapa partner by registering on the website to have access to all registered Embrapa colleagues that may have the same interest as you. Also, you can visit Embrapa´s website (www.embrapa.br) for links to specific Embrapa Centers where you can find areas of interest and potential partners. Note that you can only submit a proposal with an Embrapa partner.

9) I am based in LAC (not including Brazil), how can I find an Embrapa partner?

You can find and contact an Embrapa partner by registering on the website to have access to all registered Embrapa colleagues that may have the same interest as you. Also, you can visit Embrapa´s website (www.embrapa.br) for links to specific Embrapa Centers where you can find areas of interest and potential partners. Note that you can only submit a proposal with an Embrapa partner.

10) I am from Embrapa, how can I find an African or LAC partner?

You can find and contact an African or LAC partner (within the respective call for proposals) by registering on the website to have access to all registered African and LAC colleagues that may have the same interest as you. Additionally you can contact the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA- Dr. Fatunbi Oluwole foluwole@fara-africa.org) or the Interamerican Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA - Dr. Hernán Chiriboga hernan.chiriboga@iica.int) for assistance in contacting potential partners in Africa or LAC (except Brazil), respectively.

11) Can I submit a proposal in a language other than English?

No, you cannot. English is the official MKTPlace language.

12) When I register, if I use a country other than one in Africa or in LAC can I access the proposal submission form?

No, you cannot. You MUST use an African or LAC country to be able to submit a pre-proposal or full proposal.

13) I am outside of Africa and LAC. Can I submit a pre-proposal or full proposal?

To be able to submit a pre-proposal or full proposal you MUST be working in Africa or LAC, based in any of the Africa or LAC countries, and the project MUST be implemented in one of them.  All Africa and LAC countries are eligible.
